How We Work
How Do I Get Paid? (And What It Means for Your Wallet)
Planning a dream trip takes a lot of time, endless scrolling, and a good bit of stress. If you're wondering how the financial side of working together actually works, don't worry — it's super transparent and easy to understand. Here is a quick look behind the curtain at how I get paid to design your perfect getaway:
1. Vendor Commissions (The travel brands foot the bill)
How it works: When I book your hotel, cruise, resort, or tour, the travel company pays me a commission for introducing you to them.
What it costs you: Zero extra dollars. These commission fees are already built into the price of the room or package by the travel industry. You'll pay the exact same rate or better — and sometimes get extra perks like free breakfast or resort credits — as you would booking it alone.
When it happens: The travel companies pay this out around 30–45 days after you return home from your trip.
2. Client Planning Fees (For the behind-the-scenes magic)
How it works: To cover the actual hours I spend hunting down the best spots, mapping out itineraries, and making sure your logistics are airtight, I charge a straightforward planning fee.
What it covers: This is a flat rate or deposit that covers my time, research, and personalized travel expertise.
When it happens: This fee is taken care of upfront before I dive into the research and booking phase.

Rugged Luggage Travel specializes exclusively in international destinations and no longer services domestic travel.
Cruises
We work with a select, curated group of cruise lines and cruise destinations.
Points & Mileage Bookings
We are unable to assist with reservations or airfare where points, loyalty rewards, or travel credits are used as payment.
